Legs

I had the chance to observe a praying mantis explore the window screen and the plastic picnic table on the back porch.  I enjoyed watching her legs move with the gracefulness of a dancer.

After the Storm

Last night's sunset left me inspired to do some research about the colors of the night sky.  If you want to learn more about how the weather affects a sunset's colors, you can read about it at: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/publications/corfidi/sunset/.  These photographs were taken at 5:58 in Bowling Green shortly after a severe thunderstorm.

The connection between art and nature, color and form, light and imagination - Chihuly at Cheekwood.  It was like walking inside of a painting.

Where Do I Go From Here?

http://www.nps.gov/chch/

Here is an insect my son found on a cannon at the Chickamauga Battlefield.  As of this afternoon, I still don't know what it is and have decided to submit a request to http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740.  I'll let you know what it is as soon as I find out.  That is, if I'm lucky enough to have my request answered.

* It is a leaf-footed bug (Acanthocephala declivis).

The Light Behind

For as long as I can remember, I have always been attracted to things that portray a sense of vibrancy and emotion.  However, the other day while I was taking a walk at Lost River Cave, I searched instead for a sense of stillness.  I paid particular attention to how the light affected the shades and shapes of the woods around me, and when I saw this tree, I couldn't help but feel moved by its bareness and its simple expression of beauty exemplified by the light behind it.
